RHINO Poetry is an award-winning literary annual journal which invites traditional or experimental work reflecting passion, originality, artistic conviction, and a love affair with language. We publish poetry, short-shorts, and translations. Our regular call for poetry is April 1 – October 1. Our Founders’ Prize call for submissions is June 1 – October 1. Submissions are read by multiple editors with various tastes, all looking for quality work.
Poetry – We have published formal poems, free verse, very accessible poems, wild experimentations with language, visual poems, prose poems, poems of stark beauty, and funny poems.
Short-shorts (“flash fiction”) – Short–shorts must be less than 1,000 words.
Translations – As with all our features, we publish translations that move, experiment, provoke, play, compel, sing. As part of our ongoing interest in international poetry, RHINO Poetry has begun a three-year effort to encourage submissions from poets around the Pacific, particularly those in language groups and/or from countries less frequently represented in North American poetry journals.
Please read our Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to learn more about our submission process. As with any literary publication, it is always best to read the magazine before submitting your work. RHINO Poetry continues to be interested in submissions from poets worldwide.
