The Art of Play: I believe play is a natural way to interrogate the world around us while also being a key component of socialization and group bonding. Think of all the games that shaped our upbringings: board games, outdoor games, imagination games. And what are poems if not individual worlds that we construct? In this talk, we will engage with these worlds through group forms of play. We will do a series of activities testing out the realities of our poems while also supporting each other to share in ways that will bring laughter, joy, pain, and anger to the surface. We will remind ourselves that we are never too old to have fun together, and that through communal play, we can also look deeply into the work our poems are doing after they are written, sharing vulnerable moments with one another. Please bring 1-2 pages of poems for the activities.Sam Herschel Wein lives in Chicago and specializes in perpetual frolicking.
